That is why I recommend these four books by journalist Anabel Hernández, which provide a broad and detailed view of drug trafficking in Mexico from different angles and perspectives, being essential for anyone who wishes to understand the complexity and impact of this phenomenon in the country.



1. Los Señores del Narco / Narcoland - Anabel Hernández


Summary: In this book, journalist Anabel Hernández offers an exhaustive investigation into the structure of drug trafficking in Mexico. Published in 2010, Hernández reveals the complicity between drug cartels, businessmen and government authorities. This book is based on the diaries of Vicente Zambada Niebla, alias "El Vicentillo", son of Ismael "El Mayo" Zambada, one of the leaders of the Sinaloa Cartel. Hernández offers an inside view of the cartel's operations and negotiations with US authorities, revealing betrayal and alliances within the world of drug trafficking.

Summary: Anabel Hernández, one of the journalists with the most extensive experience in drug trafficking issues, investigates in this book the alleged relations between the government of Andrés Manuel López Obrador and the Sinaloa Cartel. Published in June of this year (2024), Hernández's most recent book analyzes the rumors and evidence that suggest possible collaboration or tolerance towards this cartel during the AMLO administration.


Importance: This book is controversial and critical, offering a perspective on the possible influences and political agreements that may have facilitated the operation of one of the most powerful cartels in Mexico.
